Marjorie Hopkins, age 90, of Carrollton, IL died Sunday evening (March 30, 2025) surrounded by her family.

She was born September 19, 1934 in Wayland, IA, daughter of the late Lawrence “Dick” and Wilma Allred Campbell.

She married Dr. William E. Hopkins on March 3, 1957 in Mt. Pleasant, IA and he preceded her in death on February 2, 2023.

Surviving are daughters, Pamela Hillis (Frank) of Carrollton, IL and Debra Roundcount (Ed) of Jerseyville, IL and a son, William E. Hopkins II (Nancy) of St. Peters, MO; five grandchildren, Michelle Dyer (Rick) of Godfrey, IL, Travis Roundcount (Rhonda) of Decatur, IL, Jameson De Nagel (Brenda) of Benton, AR, Jaclyn Gianella (Rob) of Florissant, MO, Connor William Hopkins (Ashley Bendl) of New York, NY; two step-grandsons, Dave Hillis (Karen) of Oxford, MS and Eric Hillis (Melissa) of Italy; fourteen great-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; a sister, Claudia Beckwith of Rock Island, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Arlene Edmondson; a sister-in-law, and four brother-in-laws.

Marjorie graduated and was valedictorian of her high school class in Iowa. She attended Iowa Wesleyan University and later attended and graduated from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville receiving her bachelor’s degree in business.

She aided her husband in the day-to-day operations of the Hopkins Veterinary Clinic in Carrollton. She was a member of the Carrollton United Methodist Church where she held various offices. She was past leader of the Carrollton Food Pantry, past Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader, and co-leader of the 4-H Happy Homemakers.

She loved sports and enjoyed watching Cardinals Baseball. She also loved playing Bridge, was a wonderful cook, and hosted teas for the Greene County Fair Queens for several years. Marjorie loved Christmas and loved decorating the house. She was past owner and operator of the Doubletree in Carrollton offering a tearoom, gifts, and antiques. She was also an enthusiastic member of “The Wheels.” Marjorie was very much a community person and loved spending time with her family. Marjorie just “loved life.”

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Carrollton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery near Eldred, IL. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.
