Marjorie Cordes

Marjorie A. (Albrecht) Cordes, 94, of Carrollton died on Friday, September 3, 2021, at White Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in White Hall.     

Daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Banghart) Albrecht, she was born in Greenfield on June 22, 1927.

Marjorie attended Salem and Berdan Country Schools and graduated from St. John’s High School in 1945.  She married Henry J. Cordes on June 30, 1948, at St. John’s Church in Carrollton.  He preceded her in death on June 23, 2006.

To this union four children were born:  James J. Cordes (deceased), Patricia (Ron) Whitlock, Richard H. (Marilyn) Cordes, Joanne (John) Kesinger, 10 grandchildren: Rhonda (Don) Cox, Clayton (Tracy) Whitlock, Anne (Jim) Clendenny, Jamie (Eric) Schmidt, Joseph Cordes, James Cordes, Terry (Michelle) Cordes, Susan (Scott) Wray, Elizabeth (Nathan) Piper, Kyle (fiancé Alexandria) Kesinger, 11 great-grandchildren: Daniel (Leanne) Cox, Lucas Cox, Brandon (Destiny) Schmidt, Cailee Schmidt, Cara Whitlock, Kinze and Riley Whitlock, Dagan Cordes, Evan Cordes, Cole Wray, Emily Wray, 2 great-great-grandchildren: Mason Schmidt, Brady Cox, 2 step-grandchildren: Tyler and Taylor Clendenny.  Also surviving are a daughter-in-law: Janet Cordes Pregler of Jerseyville and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a son: James J. Cordes, a brother Harold J. Albrecht and a sister Dorothy C. Symes.

She enjoyed living and working on the farm with her husband for 58 years.  Loved staying at the cabin and boating on the Mississippi River for many years and traveling with their camper.  Marjorie loved playing cards and eating out with friends.

She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society, The Catholic Daughters of America (since Jan. 28, 1951), and the Greene County Farm Bureau.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 10-11 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton.  Mass will be celebrated immediately after the visitation.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.  The family request donations be directed to St. John’s Cemetery.  Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is assisting the family at this time.  Condolences may be left online at: www.airsman-hires.com
