Marilyn I. Lewis

Marilyn I. Lewis, age 79, passed away at 10:00 am Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center of Alton. 

She was born on May 6, 1932 in Brown County, IL, the daughter of  Wayne and Evelyn (Greenwell) Snyder.

She married John Lewis on June 14, 1953 in Cooperstown, IL and he preceded her in death October of 2004.

Marilyn was a administrative assistant for Olin Corporation for thirty five years before retiring. She then was employed with the Alton Park and Recreation Department for  the past twenty years. She sang lead in the Sweet Adelines, she was treasurer of the Three Rivers Rose Society, loved gardening her grandchildren and was an avid Cardinals fan.

She is survived by two daughters Rhonda Lewis and her spouse Joel Anderson of Alton, Lee and her  spouse Rod Gillson of Cook, MN, three sisters Maryanne Davis of Phoenix, AZ, Virginia Henry of Rushville, IL, her twin sister Margaret “Marney” and spouse Dr. Charles Lewis of Mendota, IL, three sisters-in-law Perky Christman of Alton, Margaret Lewis of Brighton, Effie Snyder of Rushville, IL and three grandchildren Joshua Gillson, Caleb Gillson and Sara Gillson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother Robert Snyder.

Visitation will be 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday March 12, 2012 at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Tuesday March 13, 2012 at the funeral home with a Pastor of First Christian Church of Wood River officiating.

Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park.

Memorials may be directed to Alton Park and Recreation Department or Charity of One’s Choice.
