Marie M. Drainer, 93, passed away 11:58 p.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville.
Born December 22, 1923 in Jacksonville, she was the daughter of Thomas and Clara (Begnel) McGrath.
She had been employed at Gimmy's Drug Store for 30 years before retiring. Marie was an active member of the Daughters of Isabelle and St. Barnard Church (now Holy Angels Parish).
On October 25, 1945 in Alton, she married Harold Drainer. He died September 5, 2014.
Surviving are two sons, Bob (Dianne) Drainer of Columbia, MO, Ron (Lyn) Drainer of Springfield; three daughters, Marianne Drainer of Glen Carbon, Peggy (Rick) Haydon of Edwardsville, Patricia (Dave) Stake of Sherman; nine grandchildren, Ronald Drainer, Jenny Schauster, Sara Sowell, Becky LaFata, Patrick Haydon, Kalin Haydon, Alex Stake, Austin Stake, Jimmy Stevens; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Tom McGrath of Chicago; and sister, Sister Irene McGrath of Red Bud.
Her parents; husband; three brothers and a sister preceded in death.
A visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River. Father Donald Wolford will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Daughters of Isabelle at Holy Angels Parish.
