Marie Ann Franke, 91, passed away at 8:07 am, Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Liberty Village Manor in Maryville.
She was born in Worden on October 30, 1923, the daughter of the late Ernest and Hilda (Meyer) Braasch.
On May 1, 1943, she married the late Arnold Franke who passed in September of 2009.
She was a homemaker who worked beside her husband farming. After returning from WWII as a POW the two enjoyed traveling to many countries. She loved spending winters with him in the Rio Grand Valley in Texas, and supported him through his battle with Alzheimer’s. She was a member of the Madison County Historical Society, along with being a lifetime member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Prairietown, IL where she taught Sunday school for eighteen years. She was also a member of PTL, Alter Guild, VFW Women, 4-H, and Evangelism.
She is survived by two children and their spouse, Joan Kathleen & Willis Crowe of Glen Carbon and Gary Lee & Patsy Franke of Moro; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dana and Mike Shain, Rebecca and Tim Philipps, Jason and Jaime Crowe, Tricia Franke and friend Scott Jankowski and Jill Lembeck and friend Chris Goodwin; four great grandchildren Carson and Delaney Philipps, Shelby Lembeck, and Gabriel Kiefer; two step grandsons and a spouse, Matthew & Susan Henke and Patrick Henke; three step great grandchildren, Zachary, Harrison, and Hannah; sister-in-law Dorothy Braasch and nieces, nephews and many friends
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Wilma & Lester Engelke and two brothers, Charles and Ralph Braasch.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm Friday, September 18, 2015 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral service will be at 11 am Saturday, September 19, 2015 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Prairietown, IL with Pastor Dale Skeesick officiating.
Burial will follow at Prairietown Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to St. Peters Lutheran Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
