Margy A. McGovern

Margy A. McGovern, 76, passed away at 6:35pm Monday February 27, 2012 at Rosewood Convalescent Center in Alton with her family by her side while under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice.

She was born in Alton, IL on April 18, 1935 the daughter of the late Anthony and Rena (Landon) Austin.

On April 16, 1955 she married William McGovern at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Alton. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2005.

She retired from Schunck’s in Alton where she worked as a meat wrapper.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton where she was an active volunteer and enjoyed painting, bowling, golfing and card club.

She is survived by two daughters and a son and daughter-in-law, Linda McGovern of Alton, Ross & Brenda McGovern of Ballwin, MO and Lisa Anne Korte of Godfrey; seven grandchildren, Tricia (Jeffrey) Conrad, Andrea Butler and fiancé Salvatore LaForte, Zachary McGovern and fiancé Tara Miller, Sean McGovern, Andrew, Meghan, and Leah Korte; three great-grandchildren, Adam Richards, Avery, and Kutler Conrad; and four sisters Marcella Waddell, Jean Schenk, Rena Lanham, Ruth Wellman; and two brothers, Bob Austin and David Austin.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers Bud and James Richard Austin.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm Thursday March 1, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am Friday March 2, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Walther OMV officiating. 

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton or Marquette Catholic High School.

The family would like to thank St. Clare’s, St. Anthony’s Health Center and Hospice, Dr. Hafez Alsmaan and Rosewood Convalescent Center in Alton for the wonderful care they provided for Margy and her family.
