Margaret Ann Whiteman, 76, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at St. Louis University Hospital.
Born Apr. 29, 1948 in Lafayette, IN, she was a daughter of William H. and Martha Agnes (Shultz) Glick.
Margaret married Kenneth W. Whiteman Dec. 28, 1948 in Mulberry, IN. Together they shared over 55 years of marriage. She earned her Master’s degree in education and spent a career teaching in public schools. She was the first Lutheran to serve as a principal in a Catholic school. Later in life, she worked side by side with Ken in several businesses. They built custom log homes in Gheen, MN and had a “Pack & Ship” business in Phoenix, AZ. She had an embroidery business and most recently had a quilting business in Alton. She still supported Banner Hospital in Phoenix by making and sending bonnets and hats for the “preemies.” Margaret loved taking care of people and was a fantastic volunteer at the OSF Moeller Cancer Center. She also enjoyed reading and playing cards and games at get-togethers with friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers, George Glick of Fort Wayne, IN and John (Doug Stier) Glick of Greensburg, IN; a cousin, Nancy Hickman of Lafayette; a half cousin Jerry Shultz of Zionsville, IN, and a very special cousin Ronda Burton of Columbus, IN; other extended family and many dear friends. Margaret was also an honorary grandmother to Harvey and Magnolia Van Hoesen as well as a dear neighbor to their parents, Jonathan and Crysta Van Hoesen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alice Glick; and a brother, Hubert Glick.
