Margaret Jewell Smith (nee Gordon) born April 11, 1939, of Granite City, IL passed surrounded by loved ones on December 1, 2024. A great lover of cats, sewing, and playing the piano, she spent her time enjoying the news and caring for her neighborhood cats. She enjoyed crafting and sewing and crocheting things for those around her.
She leaves behind her brother Paul D. Gordon, New Albany, IN, and sister Carol “Sue” Thompson, Evansville, IN, their children and grandchildren.
She also leaves behind children Jana Kell (Dane), of Granite City, IL, and Eldon “Eddie” Smith (Lorrie) of Robbinsville, NC. Grandchildren Kinsey McKibbin (Clayton) of Maryland Heights, MO, Thomas Kell of St. Ann, MO, Jamie Hanson (Nick) of O'Fallon, MO, Bethany Riddle (Ben), of Robbinsville, NC, LoryBeth Morgan, of Asheboro, NC, Masyn Smith, of Fayetteville, NC. Great grandchildren Tenille Leonard, Ethan Leonard, AnnLee Lester, Dylan Kell, Elizabeth Fletcher, Mattux Leonard, Aletheia McKibbin, Oliver Fletcher, Dixie Leonard, Crosby McKibbin, and Clara McKibbin. Great great grandchild Ziggy Kane.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Mary Gordon (nee Waggoner) of Owensville, IN, husband Marion Eldon Smith of Princeton, IN, grandson Casey Joseph Kell of Granite City, IL.
A celebration of life will be hosted at Second Baptist Church, 2100 Illinois Street, Granite City, IL on Saturday December 7, 2024 at 4 p.m.

Margaret loved all creatures, but especially cats and kittens. If you feel so inclined, please make a monetary or physical donation in her honor of blankets, toys, food, etc. to your local no-kill shelter.
