SHIRLEY RINGHAUSENFIELDON- Margaret Shirley Ringhausen, 80, died at 8:01 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2011 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.She was born in Batchtown on Nov. 24, 1930, one of five children born to the late John D. & Laura (Walsh) Surgeon.Shirley spent the majority of her youth in Batchtown, and was raised assisting her family on the Surgeon Orchards. She graduated from Jersey Community High School, and was formerly married to William D. Ringhausen. During their marriage they became the parents of four children and she once again was associated with the apple orchards, lending a hand whenever needed at Ringhausen Orchards.She was well known for her delicacies, operating a fruit stand and Shirleys Delicious Delights in Grafton, where she made homemade jams, jellies, and butters.Surviving are a son, John B. "JB" Ringhausen of Harvard, Il.; a daughter & son in law, Janie & Joseph Berta of LaHoma, Ok.; two grandchildren & their spouses, Laurie & Jesse Bittle of Oceanside, Ca., and Joseph & Emily Berta V , stationed with the U.S. Navy in Meridian, Ms.; a great granddaughter, Lilie Kate Bittle; a sister, Dorothy Klockenkemper of Batchtown; and two brothers, Lynn Surgeon of Red Bud and Donald Surgeon of Pacifica, Ca.She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Charles M. "Chuck" Ringhausen and Edward "Dan" Ringhausen; and a brother, John Surgeon.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father William Hembrow officiating.Burial will take place at Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.Memorials may be given to the activity department at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home or to the American Red Cross, where she was a volunteer during the floods of Grafton.
