Margaret Droste

Margaret Mary Droste, 90, died at 1:50 a.m. Sunday, December 6, 2020 at her home in Godfrey.  Born March 15, 1930 in Alton, she was the daughter of John Henry and Margaret Johanna (Rathgeb) Maher.  She retired from the insurance billing department at St. Anthony’s Healthcare Center and was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.  On December 31, 1951 she married George E. Droste in Bethalto.  He preceded her in death on June 13, 2016.  Surviving are five daughters, Nancy Curvey (Monty) of East Alton, Margaret Mary “Margie” Dieren (James) of Olathe, KS, Mary Jo Ward (John) of Boonville, MO, Eileen Daly (David) of Lenexa, KS and Linda Droste of Godfrey, three sons, Daniel Droste (Ruthie) of Paola, KS, Donald Droste (Patty Finn) of Alton and Joseph Droste of Godfrey, 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  Also surviving are two brothers, Patrick Maher of Fosterburg and Bill Maher of Alton, and two sisters, Carolyn Crispi of Fosterburg and Kathryn Luedde of Ballwin, MO.  Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Maher and a sister, Dorothy Meszaros.  Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.  Father Steven Janoski will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.  Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
