Margaret Hazel (Margeson) Lamb, 89, lovingly known as Maggie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Lincoln Community Care Center in Lincoln, Mo., following a courageous journey through Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born in Jerseyville on December 10, 1935 to Jesse and Hazel (Daniels) Margeson.
Maggie graduated in 1954 from Jersey Community High School, and pursued her love of the arts with studies at colleges in Bloomington and Chicago. Her career was as varied as it was remarkable, including roles as a car saleswoman, journalist, traveling phlebotomist, bar owner, and dedicated stay at home Mom.
Her adventurous spirit and determination were evident in every endeavor she undertook. Maggie's infectious humor, radiant warmth, and zest for life touched everyone she met. Her singing and dancing could brighten any room, and her storytelling left lasting memories for all who listened. As a self proclaimed artist, Maggie wove her creativity into every aspect of her life, inspiring those around her to embrace their individuality. She lived boldly, with independence, strength, and an unyielding sense of self. Above all, Maggie was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Sister and friend. Her love, laughter, and strength will remain forever in the hearts of those privileged to have known her.
Maggie's enduring love and legacy continue to shine through her children,
John and Tisha Palmer of Tovey, Il., Paul and Denette Palmer of Jerseyville, Mark Palmer of Jerseyville, Kelly Hammock of Blytheville, Ar., David and Rod Palmer-Taylor of Lincoln, Mo., and Susan Grizzle of New Hebron, Ms.; her grandchildren, Bobbi Jo, John Jr., Trent, Brandie Jo, Jeni, Jessica, Chrissi, Matthew, Chastity, Heather, Danielle, Jeremiah, Jason, Nicholas and Savanna-were the light of her life, along with 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; two sisters, JoAnn Byland of Carrollton and Joan Brannan of Jacksonville; along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and dear friends whose lives she enriched.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Myrtle Margeson, Lola Abbott, Marvin Margeson, Darriell Margeson, and Dorothy Crull; her beloved companion, Joe Houser, grandsons, Eric Palmer and Kolton Taylor; and a great grandson, Bode Hammock.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until time of funeral services at 2 p.m., on Monday, January 20, 2025 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
She will be laid to rest alongside her parents, grandparents, infant sister and other cherished family members at the Jalappa Cemetery near Kane.
Maggie's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Lincoln Community Care Center for the exceptional love and care shown to her and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a fund established to place a permanent headstone at Maggie's gravesite.
Maggie's life was a testament to love, creativity, and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. To live in hearts we leave behind, is not to die.
