Margaret Moyer

Margaret L. Moyer, 89, passed away on Wednesday, June, 7, 2017 at the Bethalto Care Center in Bethalto, Illinois.She was born February 17, 1928, in Carlinville, Illinois, the daughter of Barney and Florence (Bowman) Schwab, with sisters Geraldine, Bernadine, Dorothy and Mildred. She was raised on a farm in Carlinville and always thought of herself as a farm girl.  She graduated high school having “majored in boys,” as she later admitted. Margaret married Vernon D. Moyer in 1947 in Carlinville, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1996.Margaret worked for the Village of Bethalto as a secretary for 15 years prior to retirement. Prior to that, she worked as a stenographer at the stock yards in East Saint Louis and then at Scott Air Force Base.  She was a devout member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto. She had wide interests including women’s clubs, bowling leagues, playing the piano and organ, playing cards.  In later years she enjoyed making quilts that now adorn the homes of her children and grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Don Moyer of Center City, Minnesota, and Barry Moyer of Godfrey, Illinois.  She is also survived by sisters and many grand and great grandchildren.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Bernadine (Schwab) Bellm.Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, June 16, 2017, at Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, Illinois.Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 AM on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Fr. Tom Liebler officiating.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto and socializing will follow in the parish hall.Memorials to be given to Catholic Charities.An online condolence and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com .
