Mamie Mundy

Mamie Irene Mundy, 75, died at 2:45 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville after a brief battle with cancer.She was born in Litchfield on May 28, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Adolph & Elnora (Voyles) Mehlberg.She married Sherman Mundy of Kane, and they were married over 10 years before his death in 1965.  She had worked in the health care field all her adult life, and worked in several Jerseyville nursing homes.  She was employed by Garnets Chateau for a long period of time and retired from Greenwood Manor Nursing Home where she worked in housekeeping.  Those that knew Mamie well, knew that she was a hard worker that always tried to stay busy.Surviving are four sons & a daughter in law, Gary Mundy of Kane, John Mundy of Jerseyville, Harry & Melanie Mundy of Kane, William Mundy of Jerseyville; a daughter & son in law, Sherry & Robert Crain of Jerseyville; 11 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; and her beloved canine companion, Ashley.In addition to her parents & husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Mundy; her longtime companion, Jerome Narup; six sisters & two brothers.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday.  Rev. John Gibson will officiate.Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery.Memorials may be given to the family to help purchase a permanent monument for Mamie at her gravesite and may be given at the funeral home.
