Mamie D. Lanier, age 90, of Godfrey, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2015, at her home.
She was born July 6, 1925, in Obion, TN, the daughter of Cleve and Mary (Petty) Tanner. She married Oscar W. Lanier on January 19, 1957, in Godfrey, and he preceded her in death on January 26, 1977.
Mrs. Lanier retired in 1990 from Alton School District #11 where she had been the Cafeteria Manager. Mamie had also worked for Alton High School as the Lead Baker. She was a member of the VFW#1308 Ladies Auxilliary and the Alton Moose #951. Mamie was an avid gardener and had won Pride’s Home of The Month Award several times. She was of the Baptist faith. She was beloved by her family and will be remembered as the most talented Mother and Grandmother.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Jacqueline Shaw of Godfrey, Donald Lanier of Godfrey, and Mark and Tamra Lanier of St. Charles, MO; four grandchildren, Stephen, Whitney, Sarah, and Megan; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Oscar; she is preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Pat.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 14, 2015, from 4 to 8:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
A private family inurnment will take place in Upper Alton Cemetery.
