Madeline “Tobey” Paulovich, 94, died at 8:35 a.m., Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on Jun e 14, 1924, the last surviving of thirteen children born to the late Robert L. and Narcissus C. (Whorl) Lane Sr.
She married John S. Paulovich on August 29, 1970 in Alton, and together their marriage was blessed with nearly 18 years together, before his death on March 28, 1988.
Tobey enjoyed the company of others, and throughout her life took great pride in the many friendships she acquired throughout her career. She began bartending in the East Alton/Alton area before becoming the proprietor of Tobey’s DJ Bar in Nutwood, which she owned and operated for nearly 20 years. She also served the Rosedale Township, in various capacities, throughout the years and was eager to lend a helping hand during the flood of 1993, at which time she assisted FEMA in feeding the many members of the National Guard during that period.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and two very special people in her life, her godchild, Erinn Sawyer of Rosedale and dear friend, Delores “Dode” Rogers of Fieldon.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Robert L. Lane Jr.; Arthur Lane; Harold Lane; Albert “Spud” Lane; Ralph Lane; Clyde Lane; Emmett Lane and Clayton Lane; as well as four sisters, Ethyl Lane; Ethel Boswell; Gladys Fryman and Lucy Greeling.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be given to the family, in care of the funeral home.
