Lynn Franklin "Moe" Maholland, 59, died at 12:04 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital after a very brief battle with colon cancer.

He was born in Jerseyville on Sept. 20, 1950, one of two sons born to the late Hargiss Grant "Cotton" & Beulah (Baker) Maholland.

A lifelong resident of Jerseyville, he graduated in 1969 from Jersey Community High School, and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He had been employed with the Illinois Department of Corrections for many years, working at the facilities in Grafton, Pittsfield, Jacksonville, and most recently at the Greene County Work Camp in Roodhouse.  He was a huge Nascar fan, a supporter of the Alabama Crimson Tide, and an avid duck hunter.

Surviving are a son, Garrett Maholland of Bath, IL.; a brother, Jack Maholland of Auburn; a nephew, Grant Maholland of Auburn; and an aunt, Betty Price of Carrollton; as well as numerous friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Private family graveside services will be conducted Thursday at the Providence Cemetery in rural Carrollton.

The family of Lynn Maholland has requested that in lieu of flowers and plants, memorials would be appreciated to the Amercan Cancer Society.
