Lucy D. Greeling, 90, died at 5:03 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2011 at Jersey Community Hospital from after suffering from a stroke a week ago.She was born in Elsah on Feb. 2, 1921, one of twelve children born to the late Robert Leslie Lane & Narcissus (Whirl) Lane Sr.In her younger years, she was employed as a cook & waitress at the Village Inn in Elsah, and while her husband was serving during World War II, she worked at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville.She married Paul Greeling on Nov. 22, 1941 in Troy, Missouri, and together they shared 48 years together before his death on March 26, 1990.Surviving are a daughter & son in law, Pauline Fay & John Smyth of Marquette, Mi.; a son, Gary David Greeling, and his companion, Crystell Bartlett of Jerseyville; four grandsons and their spouses, John & Lori Smyth of McComb Township, Mi., David & Denene Smyth of Oakland Township, Mi., Michael Greeling & Matthew Greeling both of Granite City; two great granddaughters, Jordan & Kylie Smyth; and a sister, Madeline "Tobey" Paulovich of Hardin.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethyl Lane, Ethel Boswell, Gladys Fryman; and seven brothers, Robert Jr., Clayton, Arthur, Harold, Albert, Ralph & Clyde Lane.Visitation will be from 9 a.m to 11 a.m., Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Graveside rites will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with Rev. Mark Myers officiating.Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association.
