Lucille Stephenson

Lucille Stephenson, 88, passed away at 10:19 pm Friday August 19, 2011 at home.

She was born on October 16, 1922 in Sullivan, Kentucky, the daughter of Ursa Ray & Ethel (McKinley) Travis.

She married William “Bill” F. Stephenson on February 9, 1947 in Fosterburg, IL. He survives.

She graduated from Marion, Kentucky High School and was a member of the Bethalto United Methodist Church.  She worked at Olin Corporation, Betty’s Variety Shop; Emma’s Clothing and then volunteered at Alton Memorial Hospital for 25 years. She loved yard work, flowers and enjoyed hummingbirds

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by a daughter, Janis Kay Stephenson of Bethalto, one son and daughter-in-law, Donald N. & Mary Lou Stephenson of Bethalto, one grandson, Bart Gregory of Bethalto; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James & Mary Stephenson of Bethalto, a sister-in-law, Helen Crawford of Rosewood Heights, a sister-in-law, Sybil Travis of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents; she was also preceded in death by her step father, Claude Fulks whom raised her and a brother, F.W. “Pete” Travis.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday, August 22, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto where funeral services will be held at 10 am Tuesday August 23, 2011 with Rev. John Tennyson officiating.

Burial will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the Bethalto United Methodist Church Building Fund.
