Loyal T. Furlow, 82, passed away at 3:10 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 at his home.
Born February 19, 1930 in Barry County, Missouri, he was a son of Richard Harrison and Versa (Tunnell) Furlow.
After finishing his schooling in Aurora, Mo., he served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a crane mechanic for Laclede Steel for 43 years, retiring in 1990. Loyal loved camping and baseball, especially the Cardinals. He also loved going to his granddaughter Katelyn’s games and spending time with all his family and grandkids.
Survivors include a daughter, Angela Furlow of East Alton; a son, Thomas Roy Furlow of Alton; a granddaughter, Katelyn Marie Furlow; a great grandson, Jordan Michael Gallup; a stepson, Kevin (Debbie) Weeks of Grafton; 3 step grandchildren, Whitney, Kayla and Tommy Weeks; 3 sisters, Jane Nash of Bethalto, Rose Yenne of Wood River, and Lorene Shive of Rosewood Heights; and his former wife, the mother of Angela and Tommy Furlow and Kevin Weeks, Kathleen Henke of Texarkana, Tex.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Loretta Yenne and Dorotha Battles; and 2 brothers, Colvis and Eugene Furlow.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors by Alton VFW.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
