Louis Schneider
Moro |
Louis Frank Schneider, age 78 years, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024.
Louis "Sonny" was born on July 11, 1946, in Granite City, Illinois, to John and Gaharta (Jones) Schneider. He joined a sister, Anna Marie.
Sonny was a 1965 graduate of Collinsville High School. In March of 1966, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. In August of 1966, after basic training and tech school, he married Diana Lynn McClellan. He was then stationed at Seymore Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina for two years. Being an aircraft mechanic made him so proud, he loved every minute. His face would light up every time he saw a plane taking off or landing. The next eighteen months he was stationed in the Philippines. He was a crew chief on his plane and a staff sergeant.
After honorable discharge from the Air Force, Sonny and his wife, Diana, moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he worked at Kansas City Flying Service while going to school to receive his Airframe and Powerplant License to work on aircraft.
Returning to Illinois, Sonny and Diana bought a house in Moro. He started working on airplanes in Bethalto at Walston Aviation/Walston Air Business. Many years later, he went to work for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri, and then of course Boeing.
Sonny and Diana had four children, Kreg Allen (Shannon), Aaron Michael, Rebecca Dawn, and Lisa Michelle (Tim). They were married 58 years. Their grandchildren are Alex (Sasha), Max (Hannah), Brandon, Bella, Carter, Mariah, and Ayden. Great-granddaughter, Leyla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Aaron Michael.
Sonny loved air shows and swimming, especially doing hand stands on the diving board. Later in life he enjoyed taking pictures and working at this computer.
Sonny was a good husband and father. He worked hard at everything he did. And he was proud to serve and protect our great country. For that reason, he asks for you to make a donation to Wounded Warrior Project in lieu of flowers.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Burial will follow at Moro Presbyterian Church Cemetery with full military honors, provided by American Legion Post #1308.
