Loretta V. Mathews, 96, passed away at 12:30 am Friday April 27, 2012 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville, IL.
She was born on February 26, 1916 in Alton, the daughter of the late Frank and Gladys (Manning) Fleming.
She married John E. “Jack” Mathews on November 11, 1937 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton and he preceded her in death on May 7, 1993.
She was a graduate of Marquette Catholic High School and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, IL. Loretta was a homemaker and loved playing cards, watching sports and most of all spending time with her family.
Loretta is survived by four children and their spouses, Pat and Ray Leonard of Godfrey, Mike and Chris Mathews of The Villages, FL, Mary and Al Kocot of Valrico, FL, and Tom and Patty Mathews of The Villages, FL. In addition to her children, she will be greatly missed by her ten grandchildren; Kim and Steve Menke of Godfrey, IL Jennifer Olsson of Collinsville, IL, Jeff and Tera Mathews of IN, Lauren Mathews of FL, Sam and Ashley Mathews of IN, Scott Mathews of NC, Craig and Jenny Mathews of WI, and Brian and Jessica Mathews of TX., and seventeen great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Winona “Nonie”Buese.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Monday April 30, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Father Jim Walther OMV officiating.
Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
