Lois M. (Short) Pruitt, 76, passed away at 11:33 pm Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Saint Anthony’s Health Care in Alton.
She was born on July 23, 1934 in East Alton, IL, the daughter of Leonard and Clara (Schmidt) Hodge.
She married Chester Pruitt in April 1989 in Sarasota, FL. He passed away in February 2007.
Lois worked in Quality Control at Olin Corporation for over 20 years and also was a secretary for the Bethalto Grade School for many years. She was a member of the Cottage Hills Baptist Church. She was in the 2nd graduating class of Civic Memorial High School. She enjoyed spending time at Lake Egypt with her special friend Russ, whom she was formerly married to for 37 years, making crafts and playing board games. She loved her snoodle dog, Buster, all the kids in her neighborhood, having her family around her, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandkids and making Christmas stockings for all of them.
She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses, Connie and Gleen Stephens of Eldred, Rusty and Darryl Shields of Fieldon, Ellen Short of Bethalto and Linda Romano of Bethalto; a step daughter, Debbie Barnell of Florida; thirteen grandchildren and their spouses, Angie Bailey, Amber and Rob Mangram, Andrew Stephens, Aileen and Louie Lodes, Russell and Brittany Shields, Daniel and Nichole Shields, Kate Miller, Kandi and Shane Tucker, Derek and Tonya Schaaf, Sara Schaaf and her finance Brad O’Brien, Samantha Schaaf, Jamie (Nikki) Short and Zachary Romano; nineteen great grandchildren, Jackie, Dylan, Lexi, Trevor, Chase, Corey, Brandon, Scott, Matthew, Brianna, Leah, Michael, Kendra, Makayla, Will, Hannah, Bentley, Jessica and Kathy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara and Bill Choat of Cottage Hills and Betty and Roger Hunt of Alton; a sister-in-law, Beverly Hodge of South Roxana; a special cousin, Frankie Shelton of Anchorage, AK; her friend, Russ Short of Goreville and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chester, a son, Curtis Ray Short and a brother, Melvin Hodge.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Friday, July 22, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Clyde Myers officiating.
Burial will follow at the Bethalto United Methodist Cemetery.
