Lois Darlene Ray, 90, entered into eternal peace at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Blu Fountain Manor.
The daughter of Hugh and Ida Wood, she was born September 5, 1924, in Louisiana, Missouri. She married Denver C. Ray on August 11, 1945, in Alton. He preceded her in death March 14, 2004.
A homemaker who loved to hold babies, Lois enjoyed sewing and working on projects around the home.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn and (Wayne) Van Winkle of Bethalto, Tina and (Keith) Zumwalt of Wood River; five sons, Gary and (Shirley) Ray of Godfrey, Christopher and (Melann) Ray of Wood River, Ricky and (Alice) Ray of Alton, Timothy Ray of Pontoon Beach, Joseph and (Judy) Ray of Bunker Hill, and a son-in-law, Bill Vinyard, of Hamel. A daughter, Lori Vinyard of Hamel, preceded her in death.
She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, Steven and Donald Ray, Cara Paschal, Anissa Keller, Amber Zumwalt, Marissa Lipe, Sara Zumwalt, Megan Fitzgerald, Jesse Ray, Adam and Nolan Ray, Sam and Elizabeth Vinyard, Grace and Lilliana Ray, Lucas Wendle, Matthew and Joel Ray. Eleven great-grandchildren, Brian Ray, Caleb, Sophia, and Brooklin Paschal, Jordan, Jacob and Haley Lipe, Carlie Zumwalt, Parker Crabtree, Jescie Fitzgerald, and Colten Vinyard.
She was preceded in death by her parents and seven sisters, Bessie Penrod, Frances Boren, Beaulah O’Grady, Florine Powell, Alice Williams, Ella Fox, Peggy Sencenbaugh; and three brothers, Hugh, Lyndle, and Walter Wood.
Visitation will be Monday, September 22, from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Mark’s Mortuary in Wood River.
Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to Options Now Women’s Resource Center, and Saint Anthony’s Hospice.
