Linda Oldendorph

Linda Kay Oldendorph, 82, of Bethalto, passed away peacefully at 11:32 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on December 21, 1942, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of the late Ross and Frieda (Medhurst) Bacus. On September 8, 1961, she married the love of her life, George Lewis Oldendorph, at the Christian Church in Alton. He survives, and together they shared more than 64 years of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Linda dedicated more than 20 years of her life as a Deputy Assessor at the Wood River Township Assessor’s Office, where she was respected for her integrity, hard work, and service to her community. She also spent many years as a retail manager before retiring. Beyond her career, her proudest accomplishment was the family she and George built together.

She was a woman of quiet strength, boundless love, and a heart that always put others before herself. Linda had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, whether through a warm meal, a listening ear, or a laugh that could brighten the room. She enjoyed painting and found joy in expressing herself through her art, leaving behind pieces that will be treasured reminders of her creativity and spirit. Her home was the gathering place where memories were made, and traditions were cherished.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Eric (Cornelia) Oldendorph of Wood River, IL; Kirk (Deborah Sue Smith) Oldendorph of Ocala, FL; Kyle (Diane Porter) Oldendorph of Bethalto, IL; and Lori (James) Hedrick of Marshall, MO. She was a cherished grandmother to Chelsey, Seth, Katrina, Hannah, and Greta, and a beloved great-grandmother to Will, Paxton, Huxley, and Jeremiah (JJ), all of whom brought her endless pride and joy. Her legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will live on through them.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.

Memorial contributions in Linda’s honor will go toward the planting of a tree at the Bethalto City Park, a lasting symbol of her love for family, community, and the beauty of life. Her roots will remain strong in the hearts of those who loved her, just as the tree will grow in her memory.
