Letha Newell 93, died at 12:18 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Villas of Holly Brook in Jerseyville. She was born April 16, 193,1 in West Alton, MO., the daughter of the late Washington and Ida (Roderfeld) Law. Letha retired from Kroger Grocery Store in Godfrey after 13 years.
Her and her husband owned and operated a small farm in Godfrey for many years and were members of the Bethal Methodist Church.On November 4, 1949 in Alton, she married Ed Newell, and he preceded her in death on December 3, 2017. Surviving are one son, Brad Newell (Diane) of Jerseyville, seven grandchildren, Shane Newell (Ashley), Adam Newell (Amy), Kyle Newell (Alyssa), Tyler Newell (Hannah), Austin Newell, Nathan Newell (Madison) and Zachary Yoder (Lindsi), numerous great grandchildren and one daughter in law, Kelli Newell-Strohmeier of Bethalto.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Brian Newell and Jeffrey Newell and one brother, Curtis Law and one sister, Virginia Smith. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Graveside services will be private at the Bethalto United Methodist Church Cemetery.
