Leroy J. LaPelle, 95, died at 1:35 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born October 4, 1915 in Beardstown, IL, he was the son of Roy and Anna (Tunker) LaPelle. He retired from Shell Refinery in Wood River as a supervisor after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Heartland Baptist Church, an avid Cardinal baseball fan, and liked to fish and play golf. He raised Dahlia’s and belonged to the Greater St. Louis Dahlia Society.
On June 25, 1938 in Alton, he married the former Loraine M. Doerr. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Carol Lynch of Alton, a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Rita LaPelle of Tulsa, OK, two grandchildren, Aimee Hash and husband Steve of Broken Arrow, OK, and William Lynch and wife Beth of Wood River, two great grandchildren, Alyson and Catilyn Lynch, and two great great grandchildren, Hunter and Nolan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, George Lynch, and a sister, Margaret Ewing.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Heartland Baptist Church. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Reverend Dr. Kenneth Morgan will officiate.
