LeRoy Darnstaedt
Bethalto |

LeRoy Charles Darnstaedt, age 95, entered peacefully into Eternal Life to be with his Savior on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at his home.
He was born in the family home on a farm near Jacob, IL. to Edwin and Hulda (Luedeman) Darnstaedt. On July 26, 1953, he married Delores (nee Petzoldt) in Christ Lutheran Church in Neunert, IL.
LeRoy was baptized and later confirmed in Christ Lutheran Church. LeRoy was a life-long Lutheran and was faithful in attending church services, singing in the choir, Lutheran Braille Worker volunteer, and serving wherever needed.
After graduating from Gorham High School, he worked for a time at the Chester, IL. Shoe Factory before going to Peoria, IL. to work at the Caterpillar Plant. From there he was drafted into the Army, trained, and sent to Korea as an airplane mechanic where he served his country from 1951 to 1953.
After returning home, he found employment at the Olin Corporation in East Alton, IL. where he worked for 40 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed "fixing" anything mechanical, going on family camping trips, and in later life, he was an avid walker for his health.
He is survived by his wife, Delores; leaves three children, Rev. Mark (Linda) Darnstaedt, Karla Darnstaedt, and Kristyl (Eddie) Mangrum; three grandchildren, Joel Beckwith, Janelle (Steve) Schoeber, and Jessica (Drew) Lance; four great-grandchildren, Clark and Emmelyn Schoeber, Jet Beckwith, and Hawk Lance; a brother, Robert (Liz) Darnstaedt; and several nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister and brother-in-law, Delphine and Victor Amschler.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 9:30 am until time of service at 11 am, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. Pastor Kale Hanson and Pastor Brandon Metcalf will officiate.
