Leonard LaVell Hancock, of Wood River, IL, passed away unexpectedly at 8:32 a.m. at O.S.F. St. Anthony's Health Center ER in Alton, IL.
He was born Nov. 6, 1964 in Alton to the late Everett Eugene & Margaret Ann (Releford) Hancock.
On Apr. 18, 1998, he and Monica Schallenberg were married at the Godfrey First United Methodist Church. She survives in Wood River.
Leonard had been an armed security guard for Able Detective Agency. He loved to sing karaoke, shoot pool and spend time with his grandson and family. He was a big hearted man who always put others before himself. He loved the Lord and was very involved with Open Door House of Praise in Jerseyville, IL.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: Curtis (Kayla Coleman) Hancock; a grandson: Ace Edward James Hancock of Wood River; a half-brother: David Hancock of Desoto, MO; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother: Ty Hancock; 2 half-brothers: Cecil and Edward Hancock; and a half-sister: Donna Hancock.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tues. 2/19/19 at Paynic Home for Funerals where services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wed. 2/20/19. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery in Hettick, IL.
