Leona C. Bollinger

Leona C. Bollinger, age 89, passed away at 9:50 pm Monday, December 12, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

 

She was born on July 21, 1922 in Benton, MO, the daughter of Frank and Della (Haeggen) Scherer.   

She married Lindell Ray Bollinger on February 10, 1943 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2008.

Leona was a valedictorian and played high school basketball at her high school in Benton, MO.  She was employed at the Bethalto Community School District for 15 years in the cafeteria and then went to work for the Wood River Community Hospital in the Cafeteria retiring in 1982.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bethalto where she was involved in the Golden Jubileer’s Club, her Sunday School Class and chairman of the funeral meals community since 1982.  She enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing cards with her family and she especially enjoyed beating her son-in-law and she loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary & Donna Bollinger of Cottage Hills and Roger & Barbara Bollinger of Houston, TX; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Elsie & Bill Hays and Vickie Kelly all of Bethalto; 8 grandchildren, Brian Bollinger, Bradley and Kristyn Bollinger, Brent Bollinger, Kelly and Tim Lively, Chris and Jennifer Bollinger, Kyle and Kim Bollinger, Todd and Ashley Hays and Billie and Bud Carr; fourteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; six step grandchildren; seventeen step great grandchildren; and nineteen nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until time of funeral service at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Bethalto on Thursday, December 15, 2011 with Pastor Chip Faulkner and Pastor Larry Rhodes officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto

Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Research Center and or the First Baptist Church in Bethalto.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto will be in charge of arrangements.
