Leon A. Little

Leon A. Little, 80, passed away at 2:00 am, on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center, in Alton, with the family by his side.

He was born on July 7, 1931 in Jerseyville, Illinois, the son of Levi & Salome (Middendorf) Little.

He married Barbara A. (Schelle) on October 18, 1958 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Alton. She survives.

Leon was a graduate of Jerseyville High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was employed at Shell Oil Company for 25 years, retiring in 1991and was a member of the local Carpenters Union # 377. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, The Wood River Moose Lodge # 1349 and the Bethalto Knights of Columbus Council # 4688 where he was a 3rd degree knight and a past Grand Knight. He enjoyed golfing, watching sports, going to all his grandchildren’s sporting events with his wife, wood crafting and being outside.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Phillip Little of Bethalto; one daughter and son-in-law, Shelley & Terry Eberlin of Alton; five grandchildren, Ryan, Kerri, Keenan, Autumn and Tess; a former daughter-in-law, Jill (Pickering) Little of Bethalto and his nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Opal Becker, Alice Devening and Doris Madson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 am Thursday, February 8, 2012 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Father Tom Liebler officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites being presented by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
