Leo A. Grady, 91, passed away at 9:45 pm on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Alton Nursing and Rehabilitation.
He was born on December 2, 1920 in Alton, IL, the son of the late George W. and Mae Ellen (Burns) Grady.
He married Patricia Koehne on May 24, 1941 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She passed away on June 11, 1980.
A U.S. Navy World War II veteran, Leo served in the South Pacific aboard the LCT Floatilla 5. He received the Victory, Asiatic and Pacific Theatre and a Silver Star Medals. He retired as a foreman from Olin Corporation in East Alton following many years of service in the Brass Mill. He was a member of the International Association of Machinist Local 660, Alton VFW Post 1308 and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by two nieces and a nephew.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Louise Grider and two sisters, Pauline Cope and Emma Hines and a brother, Pete E. Fuchs
Visitation will be from 9 am until services at 10 am Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Staten Fine Funeral Home in Alton with Father Shawn Monahan, O.M.V. as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery with military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308 Ritual Team.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School.
