GRAFTON-  Lawrence Samuel "Sam" Allen, 23, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 4, 2013.Sam was born on Dec. 29, 1992 in Jerseyville, Il., the youngest of six children to Lawrence & Penelope  (Overcash) Allen.He graduated in 2008 from Jersey Community High School, and attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., where he studied Agriculture Business and was a proud brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon.Sam started working on the family farm as soon as he could climb on a tractor and began hunting as soon as he could hold a gun.  He continued to do both with great passion until his untimely death. Surviving are his parents, Larry Allen of Grafton and Penny Allen of Jerseyville; three brothers & sisters in law, Seth & Stacy Allen of Grafton, Dustin & Amy Elliott of Jerseyville, Josh & Gretchen Allen of Kankakee; two sisters & a brother in law, Hannah & RJ Lancaster of Kankakee and Frances Allen of Jerseyville; his grandmother, Eileen Allen of Godfrey, formerly of Grafton.He also leaves behind ten nieces and nephews whom Sam adored, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and too many friends to count.  Sam's magnetic personality and huge heart will be greatly missed by all.While his family meant the world to him, and he leaves us behind, he joins his grandpa, Warren Allen, and his grandparents, Harry & Frances Overcash and other family members and friends who went before him.Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a Rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m., Monday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grafton with Father William Hembrow officiating.Burial will be in the Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.Because of Sam's love of farming, memorials may be given to the Jersey County Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation to further assist students studying agriculture.We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support.  We already miss him and our hearts are broken.
