JERSEYVILLE- Lawrence J. Vaughn, 89, died at 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2013 at his residence after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born in Jerseyville on Sept. 13, 1923, and was one of six children born to the late Frank & Antoinette (Goetten) Vaughn.
He retired in December 1985 from Olin Corp., where he was employed as an adjustor for 43 years.
He married the former Maxine Mathew on Jan. 21, 1950 at the rectory at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and they shared 58 years together before her death on March 30, 2008. The two spent the majority of their married life as residents of St. Louis, before relocating to Jerseyville a few years prior to her death.
Surviving are two brothers & a sister in law, Fred & Mary Vaughn of Jerseyville, and Robert Vaughn of Mission, Texas; a sister in law, Yvonne Easley of Jerseyville; a brother in law, George "Benny" Corzine of Godfrey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, Louis Vaughn; two sisters, Bernice Corzine and Pauline Kuebrich Gross; and a brother in law, Fred Easley.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father Patrick Gibbons officiating.
Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the Blessing Hospice of Greene County, or to Masses.
