Laura Ann Thomas, 41 of Alton, died Sunday after noon at 3:20PM with her family at her side.
She was born March 18, 1969 in Alton, Illinois.
At the age of 3, Greg and Cathy Weirich became her Mother and Father, and raised her as their own. She was a loving daughter and a joy to raise.
She attended St. Mary’s and Sts Peter and Paul grade schools where she was an excellent student, very competitive and always ready for any challenge. Laura attended Alton High School. Later in life, she attended Lewis and Clark Community College where she studied and received her Certified Nursing Assistant license. She worked in the area in home health care.
Laura promoted the use of the public library system and acquired her first library card at the age of 4 from Hayner Public Library, beginning a life long love of reading-a book a day.
Laura advocated the use of the American Red Cross for the donation of blood, as well as organ donation.
Laura is survived by her parents, Greg and Cathy Weirch of Alton. Her children, Blake Ennis of Peoria, IL, Brandie Jane Ortiz, Amanda KayAnn and Gregory Charles Garza all of Somerset, Texas and Catherine Ann (Callie) Mayhan of Alton, one brother, Michael Jenniches of Alton, one sister, Angela N. Reno of Fresno California. 4 nieces and 1 nephew also survive.
Laura was preceded in death by her first-born child, Curtis Ennis Jr.
Her body has been donated to Washington University School of Medicine.
A one-hour visitation will be held prior to a memorial mass which will be offered at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton on Saturday, March 5th at 9:00 AM. Father Jim Walther O.M.V. will be the celebrant at the 10:00 AM mass.
Her parents request that masses be offered for the repose of her soul, through St. Mary’s Church in Alton Il.
