Larry Voumard

Larry Wayne Voumard, 82, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025 at St. Louis University Hospital.
Born on March 17, 1942, to the late Roy and Ada (Patsink) Voumard, Larry was a lifelong resident of the Alton, IL area. He was the beloved husband of Alice “Diane” Voumard, with whom he shared 61 cherished years of marriage before her passing in January 2025. He was also preceded in death by his brother Lance Voumard, and brothers-in-law Michael Shaw and Gary Wild.
Larry was a devoted father who poured his heart into raising his sons with love, wisdom, and a strong sense of values. He believed in teaching them the importance of kindness, integrity, and hard work. Whether it was working on home projects, fixing tractors, or sharing lessons and stories, Larry found joy in spending quality time with his sons and their families. These moments, filled with laughter, love and knowledge was the foundation of their strong bond.
A dedicated and skilled master electrician, Larry spent his career working for the Alton School District, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community. His expertise and unwavering work ethic made him a valued professional, and he took great pride in ensuring that every project he worked on was completed with the utmost care and perfection.
In addition, Larry was a founding member of the Teacher’s Credit Union in Godfrey, IL, an early active member in Godfrey Khoury League and Godfrey Cub Scouts, as well as a previous treasurer of Salem Presbyterian Church.
Beyond his work and family, Larry was passionate about tractors, woodworking, and helping others. He loved helping build homes and various projects with family and friends, always eager to make a positive impact on the lives of others. When he wasn’t helping others, he could be found in his workshop “watching tv,” strategizing his next undertaking, or just visiting. His kindness, generosity, and willingness to teach and guide others were a testament to his character.
Larry leaves behind his three sons, Mark (Robyn) Voumard of Alton, Scott (Angela) Voumard of Alton, and Dean (Tara) Voumard of Alton, 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and three sisters Sharon Wild of Alton, Bonnie Shaw of Dorsey, and Lavada (George) Belchik of Jefferson City, MO, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind countless family and friends who will miss him dearly, including his Wednesday morning breakfast crew.
His legacy of service, kindness and dedication will live on in all who knew him. The lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and all our memories will be cherished forever. May he rest in peace.
