Larry Stewart, age 72, of Edwardsville passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 9th, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, commitment to his family and the community he served.

Born on August 7th, 1952 to Ruby and Will Stewart. Larry was the 2nd youngest of 10 children. Larry grew up in Jacksonville, IL graduating from Jacksonville High School. Larry then earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University before earning his master’s degree from Southern Illinois University. On July 26, 1975 Larry married the love of his life, Sherri (Wood) Stewart.

Larry enjoyed a career in education. After teaching and coaching at multiple schools to start his career, Larry made his biggest professional impact as Assistant Principal/Athletics’ Director at Greenville High School.

Larry enjoyed traveling, exercising, and attending sporting events (especially his grandkid’s games). After retirement, Larry’s passion for high school sports continued including helping whenever there was a need. Larry really enjoyed starting high school track meets for the past 40 years. Larry was a member at the Greenville Presbyterian Church.

Larry is survived by his wife Sherri Stewart, two sons Brent Stewart (wife Jen) of Litchfield, IL, Kyle Stewart (wife Kassie) of Glen Carbon, IL, his six beloved grandchildren Blaine, Jace, Braylen, Jalen, Brooklyn, and Graham, sister (Esta Gillis) and two brothers (Willie Stewart and Wayne Stewart), and many nieces and nephews.

Larry has been preceded in death by his parents (William and Ruby Stewart), parent in laws (Bill and Dorothy Wood) and siblings (Walter Stewart, Robert Stewart, Roger Stewart, Janet McDade, Wilma Knapp and Gerald Stewart).

Memorials in honor of Larry are suggested to Greenville High School Comets Booster Club.
