Larry Dwane Peterson, age 82, of Godfrey, IL, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, MO, with his loving family by his side. Larry was born on March 10, 1942, in St. Louis, MO, a son of the late Ruby and Augusta (Rome) Peterson.
On August 24, 1962, Larry married Sharon Andrews, the love of his life in Wright City, MO. Larry retired from Allied Aviation at Lambert International Airport in St. Louis, MO, as a fueling supervisor after many years of dedicated service. After retirement, Larry worked for Panera Bread Company in Alton, IL, for seven years. Larry was a faithful and active member of Abundant Life Church in Alton, IL. He enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors enjoying nature. His greatest joy was spending time with his family whom he loved dearly, and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Larry will be remembered as a hard-working family man who never met a stranger, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sons, Kevin Peterson and Keith Peterson, son-in-law, Jeffrey French and by his two brothers.
He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-two years, Sharon Peterson of Godfrey, IL; loving daughter, Kimberly French of Edwardsville, IL; proud grandfather to Andrew (Cassie) Peterson, Pastor Devin (Ashley) Peterson, Nathaniel (Stephanie) French, Mykal Peterson, and Julia (Devonn) DeLong, proud great-grandfather to Elijah Peterson, Uriah Peterson, Caliah Peterson, Grayson Peterson and Lincoln Peterson, special cousin, Janis (James) Anderson, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, the funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Abundant Life Church, 3986 Humbert Road, Alton, IL, with his grandson, Pastor Devin Peterson officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to the Peterson family. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel and church.
