Lambert Hagen

Lambert C. Hagen, 82, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 16, 2024 at his home in Jerseyville.

Lambert was born in Alton, Illinois on August 15, 1942 and was the son of the late Everett and Lucille (Nolte) Hagen.

He grew up in Jersey County and attended Jerseyville High School and graduated with the Class of 1961 from Southwestern High School.

He married the former Naomi Ayres on November 7, 1964 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville and together they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Lambert served in the United States Army. His working career began in the trucking industry in St. Louis, Missouri, followed by 15 years at Owens Illinois Glass, prior to gaining employment at the Shell Oil Refinery in Wood River where he was employed as a pipefitter, retiring in 2000. During his many years at Shell, he made many lasting friendships and was known as “Chief” by his coworkers.

He enjoyed spending time camping, which gave Lambert the opportunity to walk and visit with other people. On a trip to Branson, Missouri, he made friends with a couple from Louisiana, whom he still shared calls and cards with frequently. Lambert also enjoyed NASCAR racing and in his earlier days, you could find him rebuilding engines for his family and friends.

Lambert is survived by his wife, Naomi; a son and daughter in-law, Tony and Allison Hagen of Godfrey; a daughter and son in-law, Holly and Ed Karsteter of Shrewsbury, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jourdain (Kevin) Ericksen, Justine (Will) Lee, Brody (Molly) Hagen and Julia Karsteter; three great grandchildren, Elliott and Hendrix Ericksen and Jolie Hagen, as well as a new great grandbaby due to arrive in May.

He is also survived by a sister and brother in-law, Shirlene and Fred Roberts; two brothers and sisters in-law, David and Susan Hagen and Duane and Chrystal Hagen; a sister in-law, Pat Phillips; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lambert was preceded in death by his father in-law and mother in-law, Ralph and Hazel (Russell) Ayres; a sister, Diane (Hagen) Pruitt; a brother, Lindell Hagen; as well as two brothers in-law, Allen Phillips and Ron Pruitt.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville with the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492 conducting full military honors.

Rev. Joel Lohr will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted by the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492.

Memorials may be given to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, in care of the funeral home. Memorials may also be given for a Scholarship Fund to be established for graduates of JCHS, who intend to pursue elementary education or nursing as a career. Please make checks payable to Crawford Funeral Home.
