Kenneth LeRoy Settles, 75, died at 11:55 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in White Hall on Dec. 31, 1935, the youngest of ten children born to the late Charles & Sarah (Reese) Settles.Kenny grew up and attended schools in Eldred, and after being honorably discharged in 1956 from the U.S. Air Force he began working at Mc-Donnell Douglas in St. Louis as a flightliner inspector.  He later became an award winning hairstylist operating his own shop in Jerseyville for a short time.  He was an agent for both Metropolitan Life and Country Companies Insurance and for many years was a construction foreman for JCC Development in Jerseyville, before returning to McDonnell-Douglas (now Boeing) where he retired in a supervisory capacity.He was a practical joker with an infectious sense of humor.  He loved being around his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed golf, trap shooting, hunting, and searching for mushrooms.He married the former Nancy Carpunky on Jan. 5, 1957 in Corinth, Ms., and they have been richly blessed during their 54 happy years together.Surviving are his wife, Nancy Settles of Dow; a son & daughter in law, Dane & Kelly Settles of Jerseyville; two daughters & a son in law, Lisa Fowler and her companion, Tim Mason of Roodhouse, and Karen & Mike Coop of Jerseyville; a daughter in law and her husband, Lisa & Fred Summers of Grafton; eight grandchildren, Brett Settles and his wife, Raechel Settles of Grafton, Shannon Settles of Chesterfield, Mo., Drew Settles, Nicholas Settles both of Jerseyville, and Tyler Settles of Grafton, Chelsea Coop, and her fiance' Justin Pillman of Jerseyville, and Thane Fowler and Reese Fowler both of Roodhouse;  three great grandchildren, Ethan & Emma Settles and Shane Pillman; a sister, Lena Grindstaff of East Alton; three brothers, Charles Settles of Carrollton, Paul Settles of Jerseyville, and Rev. Joy Settles of Greenfield; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Barry Dean Settles on July 9, 2008; three sisters, Mary Jones, Juanita Pembrook, Geraldine Havens; two brothers, Lawrence Settles and Glen Settles.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday.  Rev. Brent Meyer will officiate.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, where the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 will conduct military graveside rites.Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville or the Parkinsons Foundation.
