Kenneth “Lefty” W. Hewitt, passed away at 7:30 am, Thursday February 7, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born August 2, 1920, in Alton, Illinois, the son of the late Lionel L. and Bertha (Steigler) Hewitt.
He married Betty Mason in Alton on September of 1961. She survives.
Kenneth served his country in the Army, he was a prisoner of war from 1944 to 1945 in Germany. He is a life time member of the Alton VFW Post 1308, he was a member of the Alton eagles #254 for over 50 years. He was employed as a forklift driver at Owens Illinois Glass Company for over 27 years.
He is survived by one daughter: Susan and her spouse Brad Ketterer of Godfrey, two grand children: Kyle Ketterer of Alton and Kayla Ketterer of Godfrey, two great grandchilden: Shelby and Jenna Ketterer, one Brother and sister-in-law: Bob & Norma Hewitt of Alton, three brothers-in-law: Bill Mason of Godfrey, Harold “Shot” Mason of Alton and Charles “Pard” Mason Jr. of MO and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Leota Hewitt and one brother: Dane Hewitt.
In celebration of his life visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Funeral services will be at 11 am at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with Fr. John Luong O.M.V. will officiate, with burial following at the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
