Kenneth E. Rothe, 88, died at 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. He was born May 1, 1925 in Roxana, IL the son of the late John Rothe and Charlotte (Dinwiddie) and Raymond Harmon. He married the former Gladys M. Phillips in Alton on January 1, 1948 and she preceded him in death on October 18, 2010.
He retired in 1984 as an auto mechanic with Bob Dee Toyota in Alton and was a member of St. John’s U.C.C. Church in Brighton. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a radio operator in the Pacific Theater. Kenneth was a member of Alton VFW Post 1308, the Bob Bermes Orchestra and the Music Makers. He also enjoyed farming, camping, fishing, and was a jack of all trades.
He is survived by one daughter; Brenda Hedgpeth (Christopher) of Brighton and one son; Larry Rothe (Roseann) of Brighton, six grandchildren; Christie Miller (Jake) of Godfrey, Matt Rothe (Ginger) of Jerseyville, Stephanie McAfee of Fieldon, Russell Rothe and his companion Alisa Creal of Medora , Andy Rothe and his companion Carlye Terrell of Jerseyville and Cora Rothe of Brighton, seven great grandchildren; Joseph and Jayden Miller of Godfrey, Ethan and Emma Rothe of Jerseyville, Kyler and Khloe McAfee of Fieldon and Caroline Rothe of Jerseyville, and his faithful canine companion; Penny Ann, one brother; John R. Rothe (Jan) of Otterville, and one sister; Elizabeth Brenton (Frank) of Worden. He was preceded in death by one son; Daniel Lee “Butchie” Rothe.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday with Pastor Dana Schindler to officiate.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with Military Honors from VFW Post 1308.
