Kenneth E. Gibbons, 88, passed away at 4:40 am Saturday October 30, 2010 at Bethalto Care Center with his family by his side.
He was born on July 18, 1922 in Alton, the son of Walter &Exie (pollard) Gibbons.
He married the former Bette J. Edwards on May 10, 1946 at 12th Street Presbyterian Church in Alton.
He was a WWII Veteran in the Army; worked in the Engineering Department for Olin Corporation and was a former member of the Alton Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the American Legion in Edwardsville, Alton VFW Post 1308 and he enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy & Jim Williams of Hannibal, MO; a son and daughter-in-law, David & Brenda Gibbons of Bethalto, IL; three grandchildren, Julie & Donnie Darrow of Bethalto, Joseph & Lisa Gibbons of Katy, TX and Lauren Mennemeyer of St. Louis, MO; and three great grandchildren, Jerica, Josie and Jaylie.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter Nelson Gibbons.
Visitation will be from 10 am until time of funeral services at 11 am Wednesday November 3, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Rev. David Olson officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in Godfrey.
