Kathleen Nickell

Kathleen (Kathy) Nickell died at her home in Cortez, Colorado on July 4, 2011.  She was born May 13, 1961 to Robert D. & Mary E. Nickell.  Kathy was a graduate of Alton High School & Eastern Illinois University.  She began her career as a Wildlife Biologist for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and The Forrest Service at Medford, Oregon in 1987.  In 2000 she moved to Cortez Colorado to be the Wildlife Biologist for the Delores Public Lands.  She managed and protected the Wildlife Resources on the San Juan National Forrest. She was a member of the For Pets Sake-Cortez Humane Society, Durango Agility Dogs- North American Dog Agility Club-Colorado Division of Wildlife-Quail Unlimited-Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation-Trout Unlimited-National Fish & Wildlife Foundation and Habitat Partnership Program.  Kathy is survived by her parents, Robert and Mary Nickell; her sisters, Christine (Jim) Baker of Alton, IL and Barbara (Rick) Gomes of Tequesta, FL:  her brother, Scott (Wendy) Nickell of Carlinville, IL, nieces:  Allison and Abby Baker, Hailey and Kerrie Gomes and her nephew; CJ Baker and her special pets; Archer, Grace, Lucy and Jenna.  Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, IL on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jim Walther to officiate.  Memorial contributions in Kathy’s honor can be made to the Delores Public Lands Office, Dolores, CO 81321 or the Hospice of Montezuma, P.O.
