Judith Zbinden
Pleasant Mound, IL |
Judith “Judy” Ann Zbinden passed, surrounded by her family, on November 22, 2024. Judy was born December 26, 1940, to Guy Charles “Charlie” Chasey and Dorothy Irene Pigg (maiden) Chasey of Pleasant Mound, IL.
Growing up in Pleasant Mound, Judy spent as much time outdoors and surrounded by dogs as possible. She took an active role in her grandfather's kennel operation, Bondill Kennels, and was a member of the community 4-H for 10 years. Her grandfather gifted Judy her first German Shepherd puppy when she was 10 and it sparked her lifelong love of German Shepherds.
Judy graduated from Mulberry Grove High School in 1958. Following graduation, she worked for the Bond County Superintendent of Schools.
Judy met Fred Edward Zbinden during her time in the 4-H club. They enjoyed square-dancing and playing cards with their friends and family. They were married on January 10, 1959, in Greenville, IL.
In April of the same year, they moved to Mt. Sterling, IL for Fred’s position with the Department of Agriculture. They lived in Mt. Sterling for 3 years before moving to Aledo, IL, where Fred became the owner of two Texaco filling stations.
After five years in Aledo, Fred and Judy moved with their children, Kent and Jill, back to Greenville, IL for Fred’s new position with Southwestern Electric. Judy went to work for Bauer Fur Company, Country Companies Insurance, and then as a medial records technician at Greenville Regional Hospital.
After five years with the hospital, Judy left to help create and support the family business, Z & Z Electric. She has served as the bookkeeper and secretary and has witnessed Z & Z Electric grow in service to the community since 1976.
Through the years, Judy took great pleasure and pride in tending to her garden, canning, and cooking for her family. She was a jokester, confidant, and caretaker to all who sat at her kitchen table or on her front porch - and she could play a mean game of cards.
Judy loved spending her time playing piano, sewing, and baking with her daughter, Jill. She supported her son, Kent, with his 4-H activities, woodworking hobby, and as a business partner. Judy played an active role in her granddaughters’ (Kayla Hays and Krystal (Hays) Mollett) activities through the years; which kept her busy sewing dance costumes, attending competitions, band performances, and riding roller coasters.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband Fred, who passed in August of 2023. Together, they traveled around the world and created a family legacy that lives on through the following: son, Kent Zbinden, and daughter Jill Thacker (Kevin Thacker); granddaughters from Jill, Kayla Hays and Krystal Mollett (Jason Mollett), and two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Grayson Mollett.
Judy is also survived by her sister, Nancy Sanders.
Her active role in the lives of her loved ones will be missed immensely.
