Judith F. "Judy" Carter, 90, died at 6:42 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2011 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton.


She was born in Houston, Pa. on July 28, 1920, the daughter of Italian immigrants, the late Frank & Catherine (Pinnella) Fazzolare Sr. She attended nurses training at Canonsburg General Hospital in Canonsburg, Pa., and soon thereafter began her long career in the nursing field.  She died private duty nursing in the Alton area, and alos worked at Alton Memorial Hospital and St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton.  For many years, she was the Director of Nursing at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, and after her retirement from there, she later worked at Alton Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse.  She married Charles H. Carter on June 29, 1943 in Canonsburg, Pa., and he died Oct. 3, 1981.


Surviving are three children & their spouses,  Joyce Sperry of Naples, Fl., Ronald & Jean Carter of Alton, and Kathleen & Ronald Burnett of Dow; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a brother & his wife, Tony & Joann Fazzolare of California.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Spina & Laura Neuman; and three brothers, Rocco, Frank Jr., and Robert Fazzolare.


Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.


Visitation will continue from 10:30 Saturday until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., at the Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton, with Rev. Mike Myers officiating.


Burial will be in the Green Pond Cemetery in Pearl, Il.


Memorials may be given to the Brown Street Baptist Church where she was a longtime member, National Multiple Sclerosis Association or the American Diabetes Association
