Josephine “Jo” Price Steele, 92, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.  She was born January 15, 1931, in Mattoon, Illinois, a daughter of the late Arnold and Helen (Hildreth) Price.  She married Everett G. Steele, a retired State Legislator on August 22, 1959, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dorans, Illinois and he survives.  Jo received her degree in nursing from Missouri Baptist School of Nursing in 1951. She served many years of dedicated service at Missouri Baptist Hospital and later, as a nurse in the office of Dr. George Anstey, M.D. of St. Louis.  Josephine was a dedicated and faithful member of Our Lord’s Lutheran Church in Maryville, where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, President of the Ladies’ Guild, and assistant to Lutheran Mission Services at the Meridian Retirement Home.  For many years, she was a loyal volunteer at Grandma’s Attic in Maryville, Illinois. She enjoyed her days of traveling, sewing, cooking, gardening, and being in the company of family, friends, and grandchildren.  Jo was an officer and active member of the Hoedowners Dance Club.  In addition to her beloved husband of 63 years, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randall P. Steele of Collinsville and Dr. Bryan E. and Mireille Steele of Glen Carbon; five grandchildren, Keturah Steele, Evodie Steele, Phoebe Steele, Evangeline Steele, and Esther Steele; a sister, Leora Dunbar of Glen Carbon; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Price of Mattoon and Carol Holbert of Glen Carbon; nephews and nieces, Rick and Cindy Price of Humboldt, Jeff and Melissa Price of Mattoon, Laurie and Rod Damery of Decatur, Doug and Lori Dunbar of Glen Carbon, Sue and Bob Kessler of Champaign and Ken and Margie Holbert of Edwardsville; numerous great nieces and great nephews; other extended family and many friends.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Price of Mattoon.  Josephine will long be remembered for her kind, compassionate and generous help to those in need, either as a professional nurse or within all her daily activities.  In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Our Lord’s Lutheran Church, 150 Wilma Drive in Maryville on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  Funeral services will follow at 11:15 a.m. with Pastor Darla Ann Kratzer officiating.  She will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.  Memorials may be made to Our Lord’s Lutheran Church.  Irwin Chapel of Glen Carbon is in charge of arrangements.  www.irwinchapel.com
