Joseph Bishop

Joseph Patrick Bishop, 88, passed away at 1:30 am Saturday September 1, 2012 in Alton.

He was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on March 17, 1924, the son of the late Charles & Amelia (Savikas) Biskofski. 

He was a World War II Veteran.  He flew missions in Germany and his plane was shot down in occupied France.  There is a museum recognizing his service in the town of Gueret.

He married Rosa Maria Muzquiz in Mexico City, Mexico on August 31, 1953 and she preceded him in death on January 17, 1977.

He was an International Bridge Player and represented Mexico in the Bridge Olympics in France.

He worked in human resources for Falcon Bridge in the Dominican Republic.

The last years of his life he was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law and one daughter; Victor & Gloria Bishop of Grafton, Melissa Biskofski of Tucson, Arizona and Eric Bishop of San Francisco, CA; three grandchildren, Juan Sebastian Esquer of Tucson, Jose Esteban Esquer of Mexico City, Mexico and Emmanuel Joseph Bishop of Grafton.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday September 6, 2012 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Friday September 7, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.

Burial will follow Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Memorials may be made to the Riverbend Down Syndrome Association.
