Joseph D. Reau, 97, died at 7:04 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born November 14, 1913 in Medora, he was the son of Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Burns) Reau. He retired as a supervisor for Owens Illinois Machine Shop in Godfrey. On January 21, 1937 in St. Louis, MO, he married the former Pauline Payne. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2004.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and five sisters, Nellie Challacombe, Edna Brown, Mary Taylor, Alice Siemer and Irene Reid.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Gent Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Reverend Steve Rice will officiate.
Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
