Joseph Buscemi, age 84, passed away at 10:46 a.m. on March 1, 2011, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 28, 1926.
He was preceded in death by his father Santo and step-mother Marie, first wife Erma Lee (Romine), two step-daughters, Lura Lee (Wyatt) Culver, Barbra Jean (Wyatt) Blackburn, brother Anthony, two half-brothers Sandy and Vincent.
He remarried to Edna Jewell Forsythe, on September 8, 1995 in Edwardsville, IL. She survives.
Joe served in the US Military during World War II and the Korean War in both the Army and Navy Seabee’s, attached to the Marine Corps. He was a supervisor for Luria Brothers specializing in recycling ferrous and non-ferrous metal until his retirement. He attended the Sanford Avenue Baptist Church in Alton. He enjoyed clay sculpture, stamp/coin collecting, playing chess, the fine art of cutting and making stained glass fixtures, and gardening.
He is survived by one son Joseph Jr. and wife Dawn, of Trinity, Alabama, brother and sister Mel and Margie, two step-sons; Mike Ducan of Alton, IL and Rick and wife Julia Duncan of Alton, IL, Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pauline and Paul Schmidt, Brother-in-lay and Sister-in-law Donald and Mary Forsythe of Kentucky, two grand-daughters and 14 step grand-children.
Visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm on Friday March 4, 2011 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home, where funeral services will be at 10am on Saturday March 5, 2011 with the Rev. Dan Bowers officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, in Bethalto where military rites will be performed by the VFW Post 1308 Ritual Team.
