John William “Bill” Greer, 84, passed away at 7:52 pm Thursday, July 14, 2011 at his home.
He was born on September 27, 1926 in Woodburn, IL, the son of Chester James and Rose (Brachman) Greer.
He married Goldie Viola Chamberlain on January 31, 1948 in Alton. She passed away on February 12, 1997.
Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving for 10 years. He was a truck driver at Laclede Steel Company for 34 ½ years, until his retirement in 1982.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan & Randi Greer of Cahokia, IL and Robert & Dianna Greer of Fredericktown, MO; four grandchildren, Danielle Johnson, Jennifer Charlton and her spouse JR, Matthew Greer and Ross Greer; nine great grandchildren, Jakob, Pheonix, Mackenzie, Blake, Brittney, Jeffrey, Casey, Jacob and Alex; a great, great grandson, Landon; a sister, Iola Voyles of South Roxana; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Jeannie Greer of Cottage Hills and Arthur and Sue Greer of Edwardsville and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 10 am until services at 12 pm on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton.
